ARMS
Between 1555 and 1559 the ceiling of the library is embellished with complex allegorical paintings celebrating the virtues of Venice, under the artistic direction of Jacopo Sansovino and his great friend Tiziano Vercellio. The main hall of the library was decorated with grotesques on a gold background, divided equally between seven artists who embodied the tendencies of the most recent Venetian painting. Andrea Medolla was commissioned to realize the last trio of tondi starting from the entrance, which portray The triumph of arms, The dignity of empires and The priesthood, explicit allusions to the careers awaiting the scions of the Venetian aristocracy.
