The need to create more space for books and to construct new and higher shelving on the walls led in 1763 to the transfer of a significant number of canvases to the Ducal Palace. On 29th August 1811, under the French occupation, the library and statuary were moved to the Ducal Palace by Royal decree.In 1929, after three years of restoration works, the books together with the portraits of philosophers returned to the library.
