IGNORANCE EXPELLED BY THE SAINT MARK’S LION

During his stay in Venice in 1362, Petrarch matured the idea that the lagoon city could have worthily accommodate its collection of books and manuscripts.
In agreement with the Chancellor of the Republic Benintendi de 'Ravagnani, the proposal was made to the Venetian State: the illustrious poet would have left his books to "provided they are neither sold nor separated", kept "in a safe place ... far from the fire and the rain ", so that they can be preserved "perpetually for its glory, for usefulness and pleasure of the noble literate and citizens".
